The State Transport Company (STC) has dismissed claims circulating on social media that several passengers aboard one of its buses died in the recent fatal crash at Birimso Bridge on the N6 Highway near Bonsu Junction in the Eastern Region.
The company said all passengers on board its bus survived the multi-vehicle collision, although some sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment.
The clarification follows a viral video in which a man claiming to be an STC driver alleged that only 10 passengers survived the accident. STC has described the claims as false and misleading.
The crash involved an STC bus, a fuel tanker, a Mitsubishi pick-up and a Kia Sorento. While the accident claimed three lives, the transport company stressed that none of the deceased were passengers on its bus.
Speaking to Citi News on Tuesday, August 4, STC’s Deputy Managing Director in charge of Finance and Administration, Nuru Hamidan, said all 31 passengers on board the bus had been accounted for.
“I am happy to say that none of the STC passengers died. All of them were safe, although some sustained bruises and were taken to the hospital. We dispatched two buses to transport passengers who wished to continue their journey to Kumasi after they had been discharged. Thirty-one passengers boarded the buses, and we have accounted for all 31 passengers,” he said.
Mr Hamidan said the company quickly arranged alternative transport for passengers who chose to continue their journey after receiving medical attention.
He reaffirmed STC’s commitment to passenger safety, reliability and quality service, noting that the company’s experienced drivers and operational standards remain central to its safety record.
The Deputy Managing Director also urged the public to disregard unverified reports about the accident and rely on official information from the company and relevant authorities.
