Sports Ministry approves $3.4m as AFCON budget for Black Stars

The Ministry of Youth and Sports have approved $3.4m as Black Stars budget ahead of the Africa Cup on Nations in Gabon.

Outgoing Youth and Sports Minister, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye disclosed this on the AM Show on Joy News.

“We have given the GFA $3.4m for the Black Stars participation in Gabon.

“We have started working on it because their budget came late but we are still on it. I will continue to work as the Sports Minister until the midnight of January 7.

“The budget proposal was about $5.4m but we did some work on it as I normally do. We have been able to cut it down to $3.4m but we will enquire about the money CAF gives to the various national teams that have qualified for the AFCON,” he said.

Black Stars have been paired in Group D with Egypt, Mali and Uganda. The AFCON tournament kicks off on January 14th in Gabon.
