Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North, Collins Adomako-Mensah, has raised concerns about the mindset surrounding illegal mining, warning that it is undermining efforts to combat galamsey.

Speaking on Badwam on Adom TV, he alleged that some police officers are eager to be posted to galamsey-prone areas, not to enforce the law, but because of the personal benefits they stand to gain.

“There are some policemen who want to be posted to galamsey areas,” he stated.

According to him, this reflects a deeper problem that goes beyond policy formulation and enforcement.

He stressed that even if government moves to regulate small-scale mining activities, the fight will remain difficult unless there is a fundamental change in mindset.

Collins Adomako-Mensah noted that the galamsey business has become highly attractive, drawing individuals who prioritise personal gain over national interest.

He warned that such attitudes weaken the fight against illegal mining and make enforcement efforts less effective.

He therefore called for a collective change in attitude, emphasizing that without integrity and commitment, policies alone will not be enough to address the galamsey menace.
