A former police officer has blamed the increased crime rate in the country on foreign nationals.
Chief Inspector Michael Asamoah says majority of the armed robbers terrorizing citizens are criminals from Nigeria and other African countries deported from South Africa for similar crimes.
Reports of Rambo-style daylight robberies in Accra and Tema in the Greater Accra Region have left many living in fear and panic.

On Tuesday February 27, 2018, armed robbers stormed Royal Motors, an automobile company in Accra, and made away with the company’s sales in a stunning daylight robbery.

The issue became murkier when on Wednesday February 28, 2018 when gun-wielding armed robbers trailed a Lebanese man in his Toyoto Corolla vehicle, and killed and bolted with his GH₵200,000 he had withdrawn from the bank.
This has generated public debate about the ability of police to protect lives and properties.

But on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Thursday, Chief Inspector Asamoah said the increased crime rate is self-inflicted, noting that, the open border policy in Ghana has opened the flood gates for illegal foreign criminals to flood the country.

“Lapaz is now like a town in Nigeria and it is very frightening. Until the police conduct a swoop to nib the problem in the bud, we will continue to suffer”, he bemoaned.

The retired police officer revealed that the Ghana Immigration Service has not information on the, about, 10 million illegal foreigners in the country, a situation he described as deadly.

The former police officer has therefore suggested that government deports these foreign criminals to curb the crime rate.
“We are sitting on a time bomb if we will open our borders to such criminals”, he added.
Chief Inspector Asamoah urged the various security agencies to coordinate their intelligence to nib the situation in the bud.

  1. The law makers could help us by making armed robbery punishable by death.Once we start killing them they will leave.Our only enemy in the fight against crime is corruption
