It has emerged that more people are killed through road accidents in Ghana every year than through HIV/AIDS infection.
This trend, according to the National Road Safety Ambassador, Gabby Adu-Gyamfi is very worrying and has thus called on the Government of Ghana to give same attention given to the fight against HIV/AIDS to road safety campaigns.
“How many people die through HIV/AIDS infection in a year, but more people are dying through road accidents yearly but no one is concerned…,” he said.
According to the road accident victim, as many as 2,076 people died in road accident in Ghana in 2017; a figure which he said should be a cause of concern.
Out of the 2,076 people that perished, as many as 3,487 were motorists. Over 12,000 people were also injured in the accidents.
These startling statistics, Gabby Adu-Gyamfi is alarming and hence demanded that efforts be intensified to end road crashes in the country.
And the efforts to ending road accidents in the country, Gabby said would entail the removal of all unauthorized speed ramps from highways in the country. This, he said, will be his agenda for 2018.
“I will destroy all unlawful speed ramps on major highways and in towns…I will go there with soldiers and destroy them because they are causing havoc on road and leading to crashes and deaths on the road…,” he said.
Gabby Adu-Gyamfi has been leading road safety campaigns in Ghana.

  1. The statistics shown in the Road Ambassadors comment is very alarming,
    • 2,076 persons life were perish through road accident in 2017
    • 3,487 were motorists involved in this accidents.
    • 12,000 people were also injured ….
the laws governing road safety and transportation management should be strictly enforce, political parties should stop interfering into road safety laws when being enforce.
losing election is better than people dying through road accident Below is one of the examples of road safety law which has more or less abundant:
The National Road Safety Commission came out with the policy Guidelines in vehicle fleet management for Ministries , Departments , Agencies and Corporate Entities. in regard of Road safety Education for its members.
    MANDATORY DRIVER TRAINING.
    L.I 2180.
    REGULATION 125.
Continuing Education of Commercial Vehicle Drivers
    1) A licensed / registered commercial road transport operator shall organize periodic re – training / refresher courses for its members.
    2) A commercial vehicle driver shall attend at least one refresher course in driving and road safety each year organized by a certified institution approved by the licensing Authority in consultation with the NRSC.
    3) A Commercial vehicle driving permit shall not be renewed or upgraded unless applicant shows evidence of compliance with (2) above.
But the DVLA on daily basis upgrade & renewed license and vehicle certificates , without seeing to it that, the drivers have attend such courses .
The governmental institutions also do not train their drivers after they’ve been recruited.
The transportation Unions, such as, GPRTU & PROTOA etc. Do not organize such refresher courses for its members on yearly basis.
Yet, we won’t this same drivers to drive as safely to our destinations.
most of this drivers are ignorant of the road safety laws and obligations.
parliament of Ghana should enforce this laws for drivers to be train yearly by the authorize institutions such as NVTI, etc.
Example of NVTI training courses for drivers are as ff,
    1 Defensive driving course
    2 strategic driving course
    3 Driver instructors course. etc.
    WHY IT MATTERS ?
    • several factors are responsible for the rapid increase in the demand for vehicular transport.
    • commercial vehicle driver safety is thus very important in providing drivers with the required physical and psychological tools and techniques required to effectively deal with the safety issues the arise whilst driving.
    • This is especially very important as it can be deduced from the presentation that, there is a strong relationship between driver working conditions and road traffic safety…
Education has no end, so drivers also need to be train .
this law which is beneficial for drivers must be strictly enforce
