Deputy Health Minister Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah has questioned whether the controversy involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, is an isolated incident, raising concerns about possible previous occurrences at schools where he has worked.
The Essikado-Ketan MP has also questioned why school authorities and colleagues who have worked with him over the years did not raise concerns earlier if similar incidents had occurred.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Dr Ayensu-Danquah said the circumstances surrounding the case made it necessary to establish whether there had been previous incidents.
“I don’t think this will be the first time. It is worrying because what we are hearing today raises questions about whether there could be a pattern of behaviour. If you look at all the schools he has worked in, we need to establish whether there have been similar occurrences,” she said.
She stressed that the investigation should not focus only on the current allegations but should also examine whether any previous concerns were reported and how school authorities handled them.
“My concern is with the school authorities and everyone he has worked with over the years who may have known something but did not speak up. We need to understand whether this is the first time or whether there have been previous occurrences,” she added.
Dr Ayensu-Danquah further observed that the matter might not have come to public attention if students had not protested.
She therefore urged students across the country to speak up whenever they witness wrongdoing, stressing that concerns should be raised rather than ignored.
“If the students had not protested, it means we might never have known about this. I want to urge all students that if they see something going wrong, they should stand against it,” she said.
Her comments come amid public attention surrounding the Obuasi SHTS headmaster’s case, with calls for a thorough investigation to establish the facts and determine whether further action is warranted.
