A motor stealing syndicate has revised a new strategy to outwit its victims and also beat security agencies to it, in order not to be arrested.

There has been an upsurge in the number of cases of motor theft in the three regions of the north but the Tamale Metropolitan Police Commander, Superintendent Dinam Zoiku has revealed that the practice is pronounced because the miscreants have adopted a new strategy.

According to him, motorbikes stolen from any part of these regions, are always taken to the other with fake number plates and sold to unsuspecting customers.

He stated that the thieves have master keys that they use to unlock motorbikes parked at functions or homes and when they succeed, immediately flee to other parts of the three regions of the north where they sell them at give away prices.

“We have identified that when they do this, they take the motorbike to Bolga where they remove the number plates and replace them with fake number plates for sale. They go to Bolga get stolen bikes from there and bring them to Tamale for sale” the Tamale Police Commander revealed on Tamale-based North Star radio.

Superintendent Zoiku who buttressed his findings with a recent incident, disclosed that on June 12, the police received a complaint that a motorbike had been stolen whiles the complainant was having a meeting at a residence at SSNIT Flats in Tamale.

In the process of searching for the missing motorbike, the complainant identified one Mashood Sualisu as the one who was loitering around the residence where the motorbike was stolen leading to his arrest.

He revealed that during interrogation, Mashood Sualisu sounded suspicious which led the police to escorting him to his house to conduct a further search. On arrival at his residence of the suspect, police met two other accomplices who immediately jumped on a motorbike and fled.

They were however pursued and apprehended by the police and a search on a bag in possession of one of them revealed six different number plates with three registered at Bolga while the other three from Tamale confirming his findings .
