Police in Atebubu in the Bono East Region have arrested and place in custody three young men for possessing ammunitions without authority.

They retrieved 128 “AAA cartridges” from Daniel Kposa, 20, Bweli Mawunye Dono, 30, and Mohammed Yasir, 18, while on night patrol duties along the Sawaba-Abrumase feeder road in the Atebubu-Amantin District.

The suspects were riding an unregistered motorbike around 2100 hours heading towards Sawaba when they were arrested.

Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong, the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the story to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani.

He said during police interrogations Yassir admitted ownership of the cartridges, but mentioned his father one Abdul Rahman Mohammed, who resides at Parambo as the one who gave him 11 packets of the cartridges to sell at Abrumase.

The PRO said Yassir admitted he sold six packets of the cartridges, but he could not get a vehicle back from Abrumase to his hometown, Parambo and pleaded with the accomplices to transport him back to Parambo.
