Police in Tema are quizzing nine students over circumstances leading to attacks on students at Chemu Senior High School Wednesday.
What started as a fight between two students last week has degenerated into reprisal attack between Tema Technical Institute (TTI) and Chemu Senior High School this week.
Sources told Adom News’ Kwame Yankah that a student from Chemu SHS beat a Tema Tech student, recorded it and shared it on social.
This then angered students at Tema Tech who wanted take revenge for their colleague hence attacking students at Chemu on Wednesday.
A student of Chemu SHS during the attack fractured his arm and was then rushed to Narh-Bita hospital at Community 4, Tema for medical care.
Five of the students were then arrested for their involvement same day.
Yesterday, heavily armed policemen led by Tema Regional 2IC, DCOP Boadu Peprah acted swiftly upon intelligence which indicated that Tema Tech students were planning to attack Chemu.
Three students from Tema Tech and one from Chemu were then arrested after police were deployed to location of the two schools.
Tema Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Joseph Benefo Darkwa told Adom News’ Kwame Yankah the situation could have been messy if the police had delayed.
“Our presence there saved the day. We could have recorded casualties if we had not acted on the intelligence gathered. We are currently interrogating them and will take the necessary actions after investigation,” he said.
According to him, those arrested will be granted bail and assist in investigation.
ASP Joseph Benefo Darkwa has asked students from both schools to refrain from engaging in any act of violence.
“We are ready to arrest anyone who will disturb peace in both schools or try to breach the security arrangements put in place. He or she will be processed and would be sent to borstal home if found guilty,” he indicated.
Meanwhile, students of Chemu and Tema Tech are on midterm break after an emergency announcement and are expected to return to school next week.

Though heads of the respective schools are worried about the development, they have remained tight-lipped as they assist the police with information available to them.
