Authorities of Nsawam Prisons are appealing to Ghanaians to provide them with medicines in to adequately cater for sick prisoners.

Medical Officer at the prison, SCO Dr Lawrence Kofi Acheampong has in an interview with Adom News’ Kwame Kulenu said the shortage of medicines in their clinic is affecting healthcare delivery.

He said inmates have to be transported to other hospitals for medical care because the unfortunate situation.

“It is very worrying to take an inmates to hospital for treatment whereas the prison health officers can treat them inside but due lack of drugs we have no option than to carry the fellow to hospital for health care” he said.

Dr Kofi Acheampong explained that most of the inmates are not on National Health Insurance Scheme making their work very difficult.

He disclosed that officers at the station sometimes use their own money to buy drugs for the inmates when the need arises.

He says they mostly rely on donations for help and therefore calls on cooperate individuals to come to their aid.

Dr Kofi Acheampong made this known when Holy City Fellowship International donated some logistics amounting to thousands of cedis including drugs and thermometers.

Executive Director of Holy City Fellowship International, Oheneba Appiah Kubi expressed joy explaining that the donation has brought relief to the prison.

He says as Fellowship, their duty is to bring joy to others hence the move to help the prison.
