The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Pusiga Constituency has called for the completion of the Agenda 111 district hospital, arguing that healthcare and road infrastructure should take priority over the proposed construction of a 24-hour market.
The constituency’s Communications Officer, Sumaila Jafaru, raised concerns about what he described as misplaced development priorities, particularly as the hospital project remains unfinished and inner roads in Pusiga, Widana and Kulungungu are reportedly in poor condition.
Speaking at a press conference, Mr. Jafaru said the Agenda 111 hospital is about 70 percent complete and should be prioritised to improve access to healthcare for residents.
He questioned the rationale behind pursuing a new 24-hour market while a major healthcare project remains incomplete.
Mr. Jafaru also criticised the demolition of the old Pusiga market and the subsequent relocation of traders, alleging that the process was poorly planned.
According to him, the new market has a smaller capacity than the old facility, resulting in some traders being displaced. He further claimed that some affected traders have been forced to construct their own sheds and kiosks to continue their businesses.
He also raised concerns about the location of the new market, saying it has been sited within a residential area.
The NPP Communications Officer stressed that the party was not opposed to the development of a market but was questioning its priority in the face of what he considers more pressing infrastructure needs.
He maintained that completing the district hospital and improving the condition of inner roads would have a more immediate impact on residents, particularly those who rely on the roads for transportation and access to essential services.
A former constituency party chairman also appealed to President John Dramani Mahama and the Member of Parliament for Pusiga, Hajia Lardi Ayii Ayamba, to prioritise the completion of the district hospital and rehabilitation of the inner roads.
He said the people of Pusiga deserved development projects that addressed their most urgent needs and produced tangible results.
