The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has directed the Ministry of Works and Housing to take steps to recover GH¢7.9 million in unvalidated expenditure linked to the management of the Olympic Ghana building at Ridge in Accra.
The directive followed a heated exchange between committee members and officials of the Ministry over financial claims involving a private property management company engaged to manage the facility.
The private managers, K&A, reportedly collected about GH¢13 million in rent from the property and claimed to have spent GH¢9.2 million on maintenance and other related activities.
However, the company was unable to provide adequate supporting documentation for a significant portion of the expenditure, leaving GH¢7.9 million unvalidated.
Members of the PAC questioned the Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, over the matter and expressed concern about the lack of satisfactory explanations from the Ministry.
The committee also raised questions about the process used by the Ministry to engage the private property manager, particularly given the amount of money involved.
PAC members insisted that proper accountability must be established regarding the management of the facility and the funds generated from it.
Chairperson of the committee, Abena Osei-Asare, directed the Ministry to resolve the matter and take steps to retrieve the unvalidated funds before the next accounting year.
