A passenger has died after suffering a medical emergency on a Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi to Lagos, shortly before the aircraft landed at Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
Kenya Airways said the incident occurred on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at about 9:20 p.m. Nigerian time, when a passenger became unresponsive approximately 20 minutes before landing.
The airline said its crew immediately administered first aid in line with their training and followed the required emergency procedures while the aircraft continued its journey to Lagos.
The flight landed safely at Murtala Muhammed International Airport at 9:41 p.m., where medical personnel boarded the aircraft to attend to the passenger.
Following further examination, the medical personnel confirmed that the passenger had died.
Reports surrounding the incident have suggested that the passenger had earlier displayed aggressive and restless behaviour during the flight, with other passengers reportedly intervening.
He attempted opening the emergency exit door of the plane mid flight, leaving passengers alarmed.
The airline expressed its condolences to the deceased passenger’s family and friends and apologised for any inconvenience the incident may have caused other passengers.
Kenya Airways said it was working closely with the deceased’s family, local authorities and aviation regulators to provide the necessary support.
The circumstances surrounding the passenger’s death are expected to be examined as part of the ongoing response by the relevant authorities.
