The father of a student of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), John Kwaku Bobena, has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Vice President and President John Dramani Mahama to ensure justice is served following allegations of misconduct involving the school’s headteacher, Abdulai Zakaria.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Bobena said he was not surprised by reports that the headteacher had allegedly been involved in an incident involving the burial of a baby, adding that his daughter’s experience had already raised serious concerns for him.
“I was not shocked when I heard reports that he had allegedly buried a baby at dawn because of what he did to my daughter. He could have easily killed her,” he alleged.
Mr Bobena said the incident had left him deeply hurt and called on the IGP to ensure that all allegations are thoroughly investigated and that justice is served.
“I urge the IGP, we trust him, to listen to such incidents and ensure that there is justice in Ghana. It is not only my daughter who may have gone through this; there could be others who have suffered the same thing,” he said.
He said the matter had caused him emotional pain and appealed to authorities to protect the girl child in schools.
“This incident has hurt me, and I am heartbroken,” he added.
Mr Bobena also appealed to Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, as a woman and a mother, to support efforts to ensure justice for affected students.
“I also urge the Vice President to ensure that justice is done, and I plead with President Mahama to help address such issues in our schools,” he said.
He called on the government to strengthen measures to protect students in senior high schools and ensure that teachers who engage in inappropriate acts are held accountable.
He urged stakeholders to work together to create a safe environment where students can focus on their education.
“Let us all come together because this is not only about my child. It affects all children. We need to help them get peace of mind to learn,” he said.
Mr Bobena’s comments follow unrest at Obuasi SHTS after some students alleged that the headteacher was involved in an incident involving the burial of a foetus in a nearby bush.
Some students have also accused the headteacher of having inappropriate relationships with female students, with claims that the foetus was linked to an alleged abortion involving a student.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and the headteacher has not publicly responded to the claims.
Authorities are currently investigating the matter.
