Nungua Senior High School (SHS) in the Greater Accra Region has appealed to institutions and organisations to support initiatives aimed at bridging the digital infrastructure gap in Ghanaian schools.
The appeal follows a donation of 10 modern touchscreen computers to the school by the Africa Green STEM and Innovation Fund Foundation, in partnership with its donor, to strengthen ICT teaching and learning.
The donation followed a visit by the Greater Accra Regional STEM Coordinator, Berthy Buah, who observed that inadequate computers were affecting students’ ability to adequately prepare for and write ICT examinations.
According to her, some students were forced to borrow laptops or share the few available devices, limiting their practical learning opportunities.
After engaging the school’s management, Ms Buah advised the Headmistress to formally request support from the Foundation, which subsequently led to the donation.
Receiving the computers, Headmistress of Nungua SHS, Regina Tetteh, expressed appreciation to the Foundation and its donor partner for the intervention.
She said the new devices would significantly improve ICT lessons and equip students with essential digital skills, particularly as Ghana places increasing emphasis on digitalisation and artificial intelligence.
Mrs Tetteh assured the Foundation that the school would take proper care of the computers and ensure they were used strictly for their intended academic purposes.
She also called on other institutions and organisations to support similar initiatives to help address the digital infrastructure challenges confronting schools across the country.
The Africa Green STEM and Innovation Fund Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to supporting schools across Ghana in advancing digital education.
The Foundation also announced plans to monitor the use of the computers, build the capacity of teachers and students, conduct annual impact assessments and provide feedback to the donor partner on the impact of the intervention.
