Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Henry Nana Boakye, has disclosed the NSS directorate will soon send a petition to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) for manhandling of some graduates at its headquarters Monday.
National Service Scheme (NSS) has since issued an apology over the manhandling of some graduates at its headquarters after a video of the incident popped up on social media.
The videos of the incident were posted on social media and they show a soldier with a stick chasing down a graduate and subsequently hitting him several times in a bid to maintain order.
In a press release on Tuesday, July 25, the Acting Chief Executive of the NSS, Ussif Mustapha, said the incident was regrettable.
The NSS, he said, “wishes to apologise to all such national service personnel and the general public for the recorded incidents of congestion which led to the manhandling”.
But speaking on the matter on Accra-based Okay FM, Nana Boakye said the respective soldiers will be reported to be punished.
He added that, the presence of the men in uniform neutralizes the misconduct of the graduates but the NSS board condemn such ‘immoral’ gestures with no rational basis.
“We don’t condone such acts. It’s bad and unfair. We are sending a petition to the soldiers… it is true the kids might have done something wrong but that doesn’t mean you should use a stick to whip them…”
“We are sorry. They should forgive us. We have video evidence. It is part of the reasons we would present to them to explain why they are doing that. We will expect them to be punished…” he maintained.
