As part of government efforts to modernise Ghana’s transport sector, Deputy Minister for Transport Dorcas Affo-Toffey led a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Transport and Metro Mass Transit Limited to Shiyan, a historic and industrial city in northwest Hubei Province.

Madam Affo-Toffey, who also serves as Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region, was joined by the Managing Director of MMTL, Kale Cesar, his deputy Haroun Apaw-Wiredu, as well as officials from both the ministry and the company.

The delegation paid a working visit to Xiangyang Tenglong Automobile Co., Ltd, a major automobile manufacturer known for producing buses and specialised transport vehicles.

The company reportedly holds assets worth nearly one billion yuan and operates on approximately 444,000 square metres of land. Its facilities include advanced production lines covering stamping, welding, painting and final assembly, with more than 600 sets of modern equipment.

Its product range includes new energy buses, commercial and public transport vehicles, special-purpose vehicles, and intelligent transport systems.

During the visit, the delegation held discussions with company officials on the possible acquisition of vehicles to support Ghana’s public transportation system.

The mission also aimed at exploring technical cooperation opportunities with China while supporting plans to expand Ghana’s national transport fleet.

The team further inspected Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) smart electric buses in Suzhou to assess their capacity, safety features and suitability for Ghana’s road network as government seeks to provide efficient, dependable and safe transport services for citizens.
