New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Youth Organiser hopeful, Michael Osei Boateng, says the party’s youth wing needs experienced and competent leadership to regain its vibrancy and strengthen the party ahead of the 2028 elections.
According to him, the youth wing remains the “engine” of the NPP, making it critical for the party to place the right person at the helm to mobilise and inspire young people.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr Osei Boateng said his years of work within the party, coupled with his experience as a former regional organiser, have prepared him for the position.
He said this is his second attempt at the National Youth Organiser position, giving him valuable experience ahead of the upcoming contest.
“If the youth wing isn’t vibrant, the party can’t stand strong. The youth wing is the engine of the party and we need a competent hand to handle it,” he said.
Mr Osei Boateng expressed concern about the state of the Tertiary Students Confederacy Network (TESCON), arguing that the organisation needs to be rebranded and revitalised to make it more effective.
“TESCON is at the brink of collapsing. We have to rebrand it and revitalise it. You need someone who understands them, who they understand and who speaks their language,” he said.
He noted that his background in student politics gives him an understanding of the concerns and expectations of young people within the party.
Mr Osei Boateng said the NPP must focus on grooming and protecting young people because they constitute the future of the party.
“The youth are our future. We have to groom them and protect them,” he said.
He maintained that the NPP remains attractive to young people but requires effective leadership and strategies to harness their support.
According to him, a National Youth Organiser must be able to motivate young people and create opportunities for them to participate meaningfully in the party’s activities.
“I believe I am very resourceful. I have done it before as a regional organiser, and experience counts,” he said.
Mr Osei Boateng cited his experience managing 29 constituencies under a region as evidence of his organisational capacity.
He said that experience would enable him to expand his mobilisation efforts if given the mandate to lead the youth wing.
“Aside from passion, I have the experience,” he added.
