Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the release of Capitation Grant arrears for the 2023 academic year to various District Education Directorates for onward disbursement to basic schools.
According to the GES, the funds have been transferred to the accounts of the District Education Directorates, which are expected to ensure that the money reaches the schools.
The Service said the transfers to the district accounts include the Sports and Culture component meant for the District Offices, while the Regional Sports and Culture components have been transferred directly to designated accounts of the Regional Offices.
In a directive to Regional Directors, the GES urged them to ensure that the funds are transferred to the schools on or before the reopening of the first term of the 2026/2027 academic year.
The move is intended to enable Heads of Basic Schools to access the funds and operate their schools smoothly when the new academic year begins.
The GES has also disclosed that a monitoring team from its headquarters will visit the regions to assess the implementation of the disbursement.
Regional Directors have therefore been instructed to facilitate the immediate transfer of the funds to the schools to avoid delays.
The Capitation Grant is a government-funded support programme designed to assist public basic schools with essential operational needs and reduce the financial burden on parents and guardians.
