The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed all prospective parliamentary aspirants to immediately halt their campaign activities, warning that failure to comply could affect their eligibility to contest the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries.

In a statement issued on Sunday, October 11, 2026, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP said it had received complaints that some members seeking to become parliamentary candidates had already begun campaigning in their respective constituencies.

The party described the practice as a violation of its regulations and Code of Conduct, arguing that premature campaigning could create an uneven playing field and undermine internal unity and discipline.

The directive requires all prospective aspirants, their agents and supporters to stop every form of campaign activity with immediate effect.

These include mounting posters, billboards, banners and other promotional materials, organising rallies, holding meetings with polling station executives, embarking on tours to solicit support, and distributing gifts or other incentives to delegates and party members.

The party has also prohibited paid media and social media advertisements intended to promote individual candidacies.

Additionally, party officers at the polling station, electoral area, constituency, regional and national levels, including the TESCON, have been cautioned against promoting any prospective parliamentary aspirant on social media platforms such as Facebook, X and Instagram or facilitating premature campaign activities.

The NPP warned that members who disregard the directive would face disciplinary action under its established procedures, which could affect their eligibility to contest the primaries.

It further stated that the timetable and guidelines for the parliamentary selection process would be announced in due course.

Constituency and regional executives have been tasked with ensuring strict adherence to the directive within their respective jurisdictions.

The party called on its members to cooperate with the leadership to maintain discipline and fairness ahead of the parliamentary candidate selection process.
