The University of Ghana has postponed the reopening of the university for the 2026/2027 academic year, which was scheduled for Monday, October 12, 2026.

In a notice signed by Professor Gordon A. Awandare, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs on Saturday, October 10, the university’s management said a new date for the reopening would be communicated to students in due course.

The decision means students will have to wait for further notice before returning to campus for the start of the new academic year.

Management apologised for any inconvenience caused by the postponement and appealed to students to exercise patience and understanding as preparations for reopening continue.

Meanwhile, students have been advised to complete their online academic registration using the procedures outlined in an earlier communication from the university.

According to management, completing the registration process is necessary for students to secure their places in classes and qualify to participate in the upcoming random bed allocation exercise.

The postponement comes amid an ongoing strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), which has affected the effective operation and administration of public universities.
