National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has stated that it is not for any individual to determine whether former presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong has acted against the party, insisting that the matter must be handled through the party’s constitutional processes.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Nana B said the NPP’s constitution provides a clear mechanism for resolving disputes and addressing petitions against party members.
“No individual can determine whether Ken has sinned against the party. That is a matter for the party’s constitution to decide, and it must go through due process,” he stated.
According to him, the National Disciplinary Committee has been tasked with investigating the petitions and will independently assess the issues before making recommendations.
“I am not the one to determine whether Kennedy Agyapong was wrong or not. No one is gagging anyone. We go by the constitution, which is very democratic,” he said.
Nana B explained that all parties connected to the matter, including those who filed the petitions and Mr Agyapong himself, would be given the opportunity to present their cases.
“All those involved will be called, including the petitioners. The committee on this matter will look into it and handle it,” he noted.
He expressed confidence that the disciplinary committee would conduct its work fairly and objectively before submitting its report to the party’s leadership.
“I believe the committee will be fair in its findings. After that, the bigger body will take over,” he added.
The National Organiser stressed that the disciplinary process is intended to resolve disputes within the party and not to suppress differing opinions.
“This is helping anyone who has issues to resolve them. Everyone is allowed to express their views. We have a constitution we go by in the party,” he said.
He disclosed that the committee has been given two weeks to complete its work.
“We’ve given the committee two weeks to come out with their findings and recommendations,” he stated.
His comments follow the decision by the NPP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council to refer Kennedy Agyapong to the party’s National Disciplinary Committee over recent public comments deemed harmful to party unity.
The decision was taken at a joint meeting on Thursday, June 25, after the party received a number of petitions against the former Assin Central Member of Parliament. The disciplinary committee has been mandated to investigate the complaints and submit its recommendations within two weeks.
