Veteran music producer Fred Kyei Mensah has broken his silence on the ongoing public exchanges between Daniel Obinim and his wife, Florence Obinim, urging Ghanaians to stop fuelling the couple’s marital dispute on social media.
In a lengthy Facebook post, Fred Kyei Mensah, popularly known as Fredyma, cautioned the public against “crying more than the bereaved,” stressing that marital disagreements should not be turned into public spectacles.
Drawing from his personal experience, he revealed that he has been married for 37 years and made a commitment with his wife never to take their marital issues to family members, pastors, friends or the public.
According to him, one of the biggest mistakes couples make is involving outsiders in their disagreements because while husbands and wives may eventually forgive each other, those who hear the complaints often do not.
Fredyma said this, in his view, is exactly what the Obinims are currently experiencing, with social media users dissecting every development and taking sides.
The renowned producer noted that many people had tagged him and called on him to intervene because of his close relationship with the couple.
He recounted living in the same house with the Obinims for three years from 2014, revealing that Florence personally cooked for him while Bishop Obinim employed him at OBTV and even paid his children’s university fees after he lost his business and properties during the June 3, 2015 Accra flood and fire disaster.
Because of that support, Fredyma said he remains grateful to the couple and believes they are among the most caring and loving families he has encountered despite their imperfections.
Although he admitted he does not know what triggered the current misunderstanding, he lamented that many people have seized the opportunity to ridicule, insult, spread allegations and even wish for the collapse of the marriage.
He disclosed that he had privately reached out to both Bishop Obinim and Florence Obinim, but believes emotions are currently running high, making mediation delicate.
Appealing directly to the couple, Fredyma urged them to stop discussing their marital issues publicly, warning that the greatest victims would ultimately be their children and church members if the public feud continues.
He reminded them that social media is a place where “everyone is a lawyer and a judge,” urging the couple to allow tempers to cool and resolve their differences away from the public eye.
Quoting Ghanaian highlife legends Kaakyire Kwame Appiah and Nana Ampadu, he expressed hope that the current tension would eventually subside, ending his message with a plea for peace and reconciliation between the couple.
