Mathew Opoku Prempeh

Eric Adjei, the Deputy Communications Director for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bono Region, has voiced his concerns about the perceived neglect of the flood victims by Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh, often referred to as Napo.

Taking to his Facebook page, Eric Adjei asserted that Napo, in his role as the Energy Minister, has disregarded the people of the Volta Region following the unfortunate incident caused by the Volta River Authority (VRA) spillage.

This incident has led to the displacement of more than 36,000 individuals, yet Napo has not issued any official statement or expressed his concern.

Mr Adjei suggested that the apparent neglect might be rooted in Napo’s lack of respect for the people of the Volta Region, implying a sense of tribalism.

Currently, while the people of some parts of the Volta Region are grappling with the consequences of the VRA spillage, the Energy Minister is somewhere, unconcerned about the challenges faced by his fellow citizens in Volta.

Adjei criticized Napo’s leadership, stating that he has not exhibited strong leadership qualities since taking office.

He also hinted at Napo’s apparent eagerness for recognition, suggesting that if the VRA had received an award for its actions, he would have eagerly claimed the credit.

Concluding his statement, Adjei expressed the belief that Napo is insensitive to the plight of the people in the Volta Region and called for his dismissal.

He believes that the people of the Volta Region may harbour resentment towards Napo, considering him the source of their current problems.

Adjei reminded readers of past incidents when Napo reportedly made disparaging comments about the people of the Volta Region during the 2018 budget statement, reinforcing the idea that Napo might harbour negative sentiments towards this region.

He called for unity in Ghana, emphasizing that no one should be considered superior based on their region of origin, asserting that both the Ashanti and Volta regions are equal.
