Newly elected Second Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has explained that his absence from the swearing-in ceremony of the party’s newly elected national executives was not deliberate.

According to him, he left the Baba Yara Sports Stadium briefly to freshen up after being on his feet throughout the election, unaware that the Electoral Commission (EC) would complete the declaration of results and swearing-in process so quickly.

Nana B said by the time he returned to the stadium, the results had already been announced and the swearing-in ceremony had ended.

“It was never my intention to miss the swearing-in of the national executives. I went home to freshen up before the final declaration. Sadly, before I realised it, the EC had already declared the results, and by the time I got there, the entire process was over,” he said.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, he explained that he had been at the venue throughout the election and only decided to briefly leave after voting had ended.

“I was on my feet throughout the election, so after the election I wanted to go and clean up and come back. I didn’t know the process would be that fast,” he said.

“Before I realised, they were done mentioning the winners and announcing the results. So I hurriedly got back to the stadium, then I got information that they were done with the process.”

Nana B said he had heard various narratives about his absence but stressed that he had no intention of avoiding the ceremony.

He expressed gratitude to NPP delegates for renewing their confidence in him, saying his election was a reflection of the years of work he had invested in the party.

“I am glad that my years of hard work in the party, the party still believes in me to make me a national vice chairman,” he said.

“I have heard several narratives, but that’s not the case. I am humbled that the delegates still believe in my capabilities and voted for me.”

Nana B was elected Second Vice Chairman at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

He secured 3,061 votes to emerge as one of the party’s three newly elected vice chairpersons. Kojo Fosu Boadu, popularly known as Kojo Bamba, was elected First Vice Chairman with 3,116 votes, while Nana Akomea secured the Third Vice Chairman position.

The three vice chairpersons were subsequently sworn into office alongside the other newly elected national executives.

The elections formed part of the NPP’s process of constituting a new national leadership team following its National Delegates Conference in Kumasi.
