Former Cheif Executive Officer of National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has conceded defeat in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2026 National Executive Election.

Mr Abdul-Hamid, who contested for one of the party’s three Vice National Chairman positions, said his ambition did not materialise but stressed that the interest of the party supersedes his personal aspirations.

In a statement issued on Sunday, October 4, he thanked God for the opportunity to contest and reflected on his experience in previous elections.

“I have contested many elections in my life time. I have won some and lost some. Indeed, such is life. In life, you win some and lose some.”

Mr Abdul-Hamid congratulated the three successful candidates and pledged to support them and the party in achieving its objectives.

“I stand in readiness as I have done since 1992, to help them and by extension the party to realise its goals,” he said.

He called for unity among party members, saying the NPP must re-strategise, rebuild and reorganise ahead of the 2028 general elections.

“Together we shall re-strategize, rebuild and re-organize for 2028. The battle to recover our nation begins from within,” he stated.

Mr Abdul-Hamid ended his message with the party’s traditional call, “Victoria Ascerta!”, and added a cryptic line:

“The royal python may be good at hissing, but the scorpion’s tail is fire.”
