Aduana FC General Manager Takyi Arhin says the GH¢1m given to each Ghana Premier League club before the start of the 2026-27 season was a loan secured by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), rather than direct government funding.

His comments come after Sports Minister Kofi Iddie Adams confirmed that the government was providing financial support for the new Premier League season.

Adams said the funding was intended to help clubs become financially sustainable and reduce their reliance on government support in the future.

However, Arhin says the money was secured by the GFA with government assistance and that the association will be responsible for repaying the loan.

“The GH¢1 million given to each Ghana Premier League club was not given to us by the government. It was a loan secured by the GFA and facilitated by the government. The GFA is going to pay it back,” he told Sporty FM.

The GFA announced the GH¢1m package for each of the 18 Premier League clubs before the start of the 2026-27 campaign.

The money was intended to help clubs meet their operational costs and provide financial support as they begin the new season.

The difference in the descriptions of the funding means the government and GFA’s respective roles in securing and repaying the money remain a key point of clarification.
