Afrobeats singer King Promise had bigger plans for his Chelsea connection than simply recording the club’s official song.

The singer has revealed that he initially hoped to bring former Chelsea captain John Terry and other club legends to Ghana to feature in the music video for “Can’t Tame Us”, the song he composed as part of his partnership with Chelsea Football Club.

King Promise made the revelation while discussing the project and his relationship with the English club during an interview on Hitz FM.

According to him, the idea began taking shape around April or May, while he was in Los Angeles working on his album.

He said one of his studio sessions was set aside to work on the Chelsea project, which eventually developed into one of the major activations around his partnership with the club.

But while the song itself came together relatively quickly, he explained that projects involving Chelsea and the Premier League come with several approvals and considerations, meaning some creative ideas cannot simply be executed because they sound good on paper.

Despite the setback, King Promise said was keen to make the project feel connected to Ghana and Africa, particularly because Chelsea has a huge following across the continent.

King Promise said he pushed for part of the project to be filmed in Ghana as a way of bringing the club’s global activation closer to its African audience.

Although that plan did not materialise for the project, he believes the idea is far from dead and could form part of a future collaboration.

He also mentioned speaking with former Chelsea figures about doing more work around the partnership, hinting that fans could see further projects involving the club and its legends.
