The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) will begin distributing relief items to victims of the recent floods from Saturday, July 4, as the government steps up efforts to support displaced families and affected communities across the country.

The announcement was made by the Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, during a press briefing at the Jubilee House on Friday, July 3.

According to Mr Kwakye Ofosu, the relief exercise forms part of the government’s ongoing response to the devastating floods that have claimed lives, displaced residents and destroyed properties, particularly in the Greater Accra Region.

He disclosed that emergency relief supplies have already been delivered to some of the hardest-hit communities, with additional consignments expected to reach other affected areas in the coming days.

“The government remains committed to ensuring that all victims receive the necessary support as recovery efforts continue,” he said.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu also appealed to the public to cooperate with emergency response agencies and comply with safety directives to facilitate ongoing rescue and recovery operations.

“As we navigate the aftermath of this disaster, we urge all citizens to remain vigilant, adhere to safety warnings and report emergencies,” he stated.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to restoring affected communities, he assured victims that support would continue until normalcy is restored.

“Your government, the Mahama government, will not rest until every displaced family is housed, every district is restored, and our communities are rebuilt to be stronger and more resilient against future anomalies,” he said.

Heavy rains in recent days have triggered widespread flooding across parts of the Greater Accra Region, resulting in deaths, the displacement of residents and extensive damage to homes, businesses and public infrastructure. Emergency response teams continue to carry out rescue operations while assessing the full extent of the destruction and providing relief to affected communities.
