Despite appeals from some international humanitarian organisations and donor partners for the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to declare a state of emergency in the northern part of Ghana, the national relief body says the region isn’t in that state yet.
In a meeting at the Northern Regional NADMO office with some humanitarian organisations, namely UNICEF, WFP, RED CROSS, National Fire Service, World Vision, among others, they all pushed for the declaration.

Blessing Ezeibe of World Food Program, Tamale was optimistic that the NADMO will consider the declaration to solicit for funds to assist victims of the floods which have ravaged parts of the region.
However Director General of NADMO, Nana Agyeman Prempeh, in an interview with Adom News said, there would be no need to make such a declaration yet.
According to him, NADMO is doing its best to calm the situation and more relief items will be made available to serve the victims.

He said even though the rains continue each day in the 3 regions, the level at which the Bagre Dam is being spilt has reduced from the 96000 gallons per spillage.
Nana Agyeman is hopeful the situation will not get to the extent of declaring a state of emergency.
