The Ghana Police Service has arrested two men in the Bono East Region for possessing suspected narcotic substances, following a routine patrol that led to the discovery of a large quantity of cannabis.
In a statement issued by the Bono East Regional Police Command on Monday, April 27, the arrests were made a day earlier, Saturday, April 26, 2026, at Kintampo.
The suspects, 42-year-old Sadic Wemah and 39-year-old Senbeti Karim, were picked up while travelling in an unregistered white Toyota Highlander along the New Longoro–Weila stretch of the Kintampo–New Longoro road.
Police say the vehicle was stopped around 12:40 p.m. by officers from the New Longoro Police Station during a routine patrol. A search conducted on the spot uncovered two sacks containing 166 parcels of dried plant material suspected to be cannabis.
The two men were arrested immediately and later taken to the Kintampo Divisional Criminal Investigations Department for further interrogation.
During questioning, the suspects reportedly admitted the substance was cannabis and claimed ownership of it. They told investigators they had purchased the drugs from a supplier identified only as “Edem”, also known as “Confirm”.
According to their account, the supplier transports cannabis from the Volta Region through Tamale before distributing it to buyers. The suspects also indicated that they collected the consignment at a filling station near the new market area in Kintampo.
Police estimate the street value of the seized drugs at about GH¢107,000. The suspects were allegedly transporting the cannabis to Banda Nkwanta in the Bono Region for resale.
They have since been cautioned and remain in police custody assisting with investigations, while the suspected cannabis and the unregistered vehicle have been retained as evidence.

The Bono East Regional Police Command says it remains committed to cracking down on drug trafficking and related criminal activities in the region.
