Today can report that there is no end in sight on the verbal attacks on the General Overseer and founder of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil.
The latest to join this bandwagon, Today gathered, is the controversial pastor and leader of the Heaven’s Gate Ministry International, Nicholas Osei, popularly known as ‘Kumchacha.’
The vociferous man of God has charged the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to arrest Pastor Mensa Otabil for what he described as ‘fraudulent prayers for fees schemes.’
The first to lash out at Pastor Otabil was controversial man of God, Rev. Owusu Bempah
The leader and founder of Glorious Word Power Ministry International was not happy about a comment the ICGC leader was alleged to have made in the past, which he described Christians who give offering to some prophets for special prayers as foolish.
The bashings followed his [Pastor Mensa Otabil’s] recent U-turn during his annual “Greater Works” conference where participants were urged to offer various sums of money for special prayers.
But adding his voice to the ensuing debate over the propriety and genuineness of fee-paying requests for special blessings on Kasapa FM in Accra, Kumchacha said the entire programme was a business venture and that Pastor Otabil and other pastors who participated in the event, notably Mathew Ashimolowo, committed fraud hence must be arrested.
According to him, Pastor Mensa Otabil previously criticised some men of God who asked people to purchase anointing oil, and therefore found it hypocritical for the same pastor to be involved in a venture that asks people to pay specific amounts for specific blessings.
The notice requesting for the categorised sums and accompanying ‘blessings’ attracted a severe backlash from social media users who criticised the organisers for selling salvation to the highest bidder.
But in an apparent response to the accusations, Pastor Mensa Otabil admonished Christians not to apply logic to matters of faith during one of his sermons at ICGC’s Christ Temple in Accra.
“Belief goes beyond logic. Logic will tell you what is probable all things being equal. Logic will tell you that if you have a thousand cedis in your account, then you can spend thousand cedis because that is logical. Belief will tell you that if you have five loaves of bread you don’t feed five people.
“Belief will tell you that if you have five loaves of bread you can feed five thousand; that is not logical. Now, many times if we say we believe, we believe according to logic, so even what you are believing for is a just progression of logic,” he explained.
“I want you to stretch your faith and you are going to believe according to what is written and what I want you to believe is, He says all things are possible, I don’t know what that is to you but it is a blank cheque,” he added.

  1. Done bye Otabil himself and almost throughout churches in Ghana. It has gradually become a Christian culture and it is truly STUPID!! We cannot pay God for anything, we cannot act like we are smarter if we truly know Hod area through out thoughts and actions. We always give to expect and the worst about this is we make the poor feel all their prayers and efforts are fruitless or second to the rich. I grew up in these and somehow I believe whenever i gave in a church, there was some kind of good luck coming my way. I don’t know if it’s because of the giving or the faith that moves me at that time. But I sure believe it is so wrong of me to give to expect but rather give because I have been given. And yes I do try to conform to the later but almost always trying to deceptively cling on to the former. In a nutshell I believe it is wrong but it is done in different forms of throughout almost all churches in Ghana.

  2. most Ghanaians are foolish and accept to be tossed around. Some group of people sit and fabricate unimaginable accusations against people and without reasoning we are quick to accept and judge. This is why we never progress. Mensa Otabil is a notable man of God who speaks nothing but the truth. The fact that he’s a mind speaking person is what troubles the other so-called pastors and at the least chance pounce on the man of God to disgrace him. But he that God chooses has the hand of God on him and this man has the hand of God over him, which is why your unscrupulous and deceitful ways will never bring him down. Instead of seeking to bring him down, focus on raising your faith in God and gaining wisdom. He might have requested for a sum of money for prayers but isn’t it stated in the bible that you should give 1/10 of your earnings as an obedience to God? Did God request for oils or stickers or banners?
God doesn’t need your money but as a sign of appreciation giving what you have shows respect to Him. Next time you’re trying to put a story together to take down a man of God ask for directions from God and know the truth. Thank you and God be with you
