Medeama SC and Nations FC will be hoping to overturn first-leg defeats and advance to the second preliminary round of the CAF inter-club competitions this weekend.
Medeama, the reigning Ghana Premier League champions, face a difficult task against DR Congo giants TP Mazembe in the CAF Champions League after losing the opening leg 1-0 at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa.
The Ghanaian side dominated much of the first leg but were punished late on when Lise Ntumba Nyembo scored in the 87th minute to give Mazembe the advantage.
Medeama have since travelled to Lubumbashi and will need to win Saturday’s second leg to keep their Champions League campaign alive.
The match at the Stade TP Mazembe is scheduled for 14:00 GMT on Saturday, 12 September.
The aggregate winners will face Zambia’s Red Arrows FC in the second preliminary round.
Meanwhile, Nations FC will also be looking to overturn a one-goal deficit when they host Mali’s FC Diarra in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Ghana FA Cup holders lost the first leg 1-0 at the Stade Mamadou Konaté in Bamako, with FC Diarra scoring in the 55th minute.
Nations FC will have home advantage in Sunday’s decisive second leg at the Accra Sports Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00 GMT.
The Abrankese-based club has announced free entry for supporters as they seek the victory needed to progress.
The winner of the tie will face either Niger’s AS Zam or Burkina Faso’s ASKO de Kara in the second preliminary round.
Both Medeama and Nations FC will therefore need to produce strong performances at home and away respectively if Ghana is to have two representatives progress in the continent’s inter-club competitions.
