Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) vice-president George Afriyie has launched strong criticism of current GFA president Kurt Okraku, claiming he has failed to meet expectations while insisting that Kwasi Nyantakyi remains the most successful leader in the association’s history.
Afriyie’s comments come amid ongoing debate over the direction of Ghana football under the current administration, with concerns continuing to be raised about the state of the game at both domestic and national team levels.
Speaking on Atinka TV, the former GFA executive praised Nyantakyi’s achievements during his 13-year tenure and argued that his record remains unmatched.
“Forget Kurt Okraku. Kwasi Nyantakyi is the best GFA President ever. Nyantakyi’s achievements as GFA President are an open secret, and nobody can discount them. Kurt is not performing but hates criticism,” Afriyie said.
According to Afriyie, Nyantakyi set a standard that subsequent administrations have struggled to replicate, citing the former president’s impact on Ghanaian football during his time in office.
He maintained that while every football administration faces its own challenges, the accomplishments recorded under Nyantakyi continue to serve as a benchmark for measuring leadership at the GFA.
Nyantakyi led the GFA from 2005 until 2018, overseeing one of the most successful periods in Ghana football.
However, his tenure came to an end after the publication of the Number 12 investigative documentary, which prompted his resignation from football administration roles.
