The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nkwanta South in the Oti Region, Joseph Awal Antwi, has lobbied for 30 motorbikes through support from friends to strengthen grassroots activities of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency.
The motorbikes were presented to the Nkwanta South NDC executives through the Oti Regional Minister, John Kwadwo Gyapong, and the Member of Parliament for the area, Geoffrey Kini.
The donation is expected to improve the party’s community engagement, particularly in hard-to-reach rural communities, by enhancing mobility for outreach programmes and other party activities.
Speaking at a brief presentation ceremony, Mr Awal said the motorbikes should not be viewed merely as a donation but as strategic logistics to enhance the party’s work on the ground.
He said the motorbikes would also support efforts to educate residents about ongoing development projects being undertaken by the NDC government.
Drawing on his experience as a former Constituency Communications Officer and Election Director, the MCE noted that inadequate logistics, particularly motorbikes, had been a major challenge limiting effective engagement at the branch level.
He described the gesture as part of his effort to give back to the party and improve its operations across the constituency.
Mr Awal also urged party members to remain united and committed to their work.
Receiving the motorbikes, Mr Kini commended the MCE for the initiative and his lobbying efforts, describing the support as timely and critical to strengthening grassroots party activities.
He also praised the MCE’s performance, saying development in Nkwanta South had become more visible under the current administration.
The Oti Regional Minister, John Kwadwo Gyapong, and Mustafa Gbande were also present at the event.
They applauded the MCE’s support and encouraged other Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to emulate the approach by lobbying for logistics, infrastructure and other development needs.
