A 40-year-old man last Friday committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling at Aplaku Israel, near Weija in Accra.
Neighbours claimed they saw the deceased, Kwadjo Asiedu, a fuel pump attendant, and a father of two children, in the afternoon before the tragedy.
The wife left her matrimonial home, three months ago, because the husband was an alcoholic.
The Weija District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Prince Billy Addom, confirmed the story to The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday.
He said investigations revealed that on July 2, 2017,Madam Bonapat, land lady, went to collect rent from Asiedu, but when she knocked on the door, there was no response.
ASP Addom said Madam Bonapat smelt bad odour emanating from Aseidu’s room, and when the room was forced opened, the body was found hanging from the ceiling.
He said the police found the body hanging from the ceiling, but did not find marks of assaults on the body, and ruled out any foul play. ASP Addom said the body had been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary, Accra, for autopsy.
In another development, a 22-year-old woman has been arrested by the police for allegedly stealing a computer laptop belonging to her boyfriend at Weija.
ASP Adom said Rebecca Kutu and her lover (name withheld) became lovers through the internet. He said the two met at the complainant’s house at Weija and had sexual intercourse.
ASP Addom said Rebecca demanded GH¢250 from her lover, who went out to look for money and send it to her through money transfer. When the man returned and did not see Rebecca and his laptop, he reported the matter to the police.
