Man allegedly lynched over GH¢4,800 theft accusation at Sabon Zongo

A 27-year-old man, Yussif Zakari, has died after he was allegedly assaulted by a group of residents at Sabon Zongo in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region over accusations of theft.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, July 19, 2026, after Zakari and another suspect, identified as Baaba Adamu, were accused of stealing GH¢4,800.

According to reports, the two men were allegedly apprehended by some residents shortly after the alleged theft. Tensions quickly escalated as an angry crowd descended on them, accusing them of being responsible for the missing money.

Yussif Zakari is said to have been severely beaten during the assault, sustaining multiple injuries. Despite efforts to save his life, he later succumbed to the injuries.

Following the incident, police have launched manhunt for the nine suspects believed to have participated in the assault that resulted in Zakari’s death.

One suspect has since been arrested to assist with investigations.
