Rumours abound in the music industry about sex-for-favours but not much has been made out of it because of lack of evidence.
Now, there appear to be a face to the claims as Dancehall artiste, A.K. Songstress is alleging that some male musicians demand sex from female artiste who approach them for collaborations.
She is not just saying this on hearsay; she tells Showbiz she has recently experienced the act to which she had to vent her anger on her social media handles.
“I honestly had no idea of it until it happened to me; I recently approached one of the well-known artistes in Ghana with a huge following for a collaboration and I was sad when he went behind my Management, got my number and actually demanded sex from me.”, she said.

“He was like, ‘I for show something, that is what is done, he for feel something’, it was so disgusting and very annoying.” she added.
“I mean how, I just couldn’t believe it. I was really rude to the guy, I did not take it easy on him at all because I felt I was being disrespected.”, she continued
“In things like this, there is no point in being gentle,” she said.
AK believes the case isn’t an isolated one as the musician she was dealing with implied in their conversation that it was something that happened regularly.

“I am sure that it is something that happens in the industry otherwise the person would not have asked me. Apart from that, his demands and replies seemed like it is something that is done.
You see, it is very pitiful, some of these things are killing our industry and they have to be spoken about,” she said.
AK Songstress would however not give out the name of the ‘culprit’, saying he had apologised.
“There has been an apology so there is no need to mention the name. I want us as women to stand up and speak just as I did. I believe demands like these happen everywhere and it is not good, so I have decided to take that bold step by sharing my experience,” she said.
She said despite her bad experience, she knew there were still decent people in the industry. “There are still good people who respect themselves and in the industry. I have worked with people like EL, Stonebwoy, VVIP etc and they are great guys.

She had some words for her colleagues who might have succumbed to such pressures. “You are the reason it is difficult to differentiate between a good artiste and a bad one, this is because you ‘sex’ your way up.”
