National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams has said taking out the Voter ID card as a requirement for the Ghana Card registration placed an “economic blockade” on some Ghanaians, and therefore undermined its purpose.

He said the Voter ID remained the only free identification which already had millions of Ghanaians tagged, therefore the Party’s demand for the card as a requirement was to ensure more Ghanaians had access to the new card.

“If you genuinely, truly want to register Ghanaians you go for an identification source that has over five million persons already holding it,” Mr Adams said.

He was addressing the 2018 Volta Regional Delegates conference of the NDC in Ho on Saturday on the theme “Mobilising for Victory 2020”, which attracted a good representation of Party Executives from the Region.

“One paper that was truly reliable, that was done through biometric verification is the Voter ID card. There is a lot of interest that all political party reps from the various communities are present at the registration centre and only allow people they know are Ghanaians to register”, Mr Adams stated.
