The family of a 33-year-old driver, who was allegedly butchered by six men claiming to be police officers, say Kofi Ampoma was killed an innocent man.
Brother of the deceased, Mark Kankan Boadu on Adom TV’s morning show, Badwam‘ insists his brother was not a criminal.
“These so-called police officers treated my brother like an armed robber. He was mishandled and mercilessly beaten for a long period which resulted in his death the following morning.
“About six police officers with three in uniform stormed the area for an operation and had an altercation with my brother, restrained him to the ground, kicked and punched him in the face before some of the officers started butchering him with a machete,” he narrated.
Mr Ampoma, popularly known as ‘Barluso’, passed on at Adomfe in Asante Akyem South, Ashanti Region on Tuesday, October 15.
Mr Boadu said the family is devastated by the development. He said though the family demands a forensic investigation into the matter, they don’t trust the police to do a good job.
The Ashanti Regional Command has summoned the Konongo District Commander and the police officers involved to Kumasi and they are expected to appear before them Thursday morning.
