Kwesi Appiah

Newly appointed head coach of Sudan, Kwesi Appiah, has revealed his target handed to him by the Sudanese Football Association.

The Asante Kotoko technical director last week was officially unveiled on a three-year deal.

After two games played, Appiah has recorded a win and a draw.

Despite the lack of football in Sudan due to the ongoing war, Kwesi Appiah revealed that his target is to lead the side to qualify for the 2026 World Cup and the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to be hosted in Morocco in 2025.

“The target I have been given is to build a team and ensure the team qualify for the 2026 World Cup and the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations,” Appiah, who is also a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member said in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

“The only challenge is that there is no ongoing league due to the ongoing war which has forced them to operate from Saudi Arabia but I hope order and peace will be restored in the country,” he added.

Kwesi Appiah is assisted by former Medeama SC and Dreams FC coach, Ignatius Osei-Fosu and former Black Stars goalkeeper, Fatau Dauda as the goalkeeper’s trainer.

Sudan will take on Togo and DR Congo in the World Cup qualifiers next month.
