The President of Think Tank, Imani Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe, says Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu, offered no tangible defense on the KelniGVG deal when she appeared before Parliament.

According to him, the Minister, while on the floor of Parliament repeated the very claims Imani and other Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have been making in the media.

“She went to Parliament to repeat those things we have been saying, there was nothing new, the only difference was the Bible verse she recited otherwise there is nothing new in what she said; it was a hollow statement…,” he said on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ on Friday.

The Ablekuma South Member of Parliament (MP) who appeared in Parliament yesterday to respond to questions on the KelniGVG described the deal as a good one.

The Communication Minister defended the deal, saying that the National Communication Authority (NCA) and Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) have indicated that they currently do not have the capability of providing the services to be provided by KelniGVG.

She also disclosed that training is ongoing for NCA and GRA staff in order to help provide this service.

She urged parliamentarians to reject the opinion of IMANI Ghana that the contract is fraudulent and must be cancelled.

The arguments of the Minister notwithstanding, Franklin Cudjoe said he still believes the deal is a bad one.

He argued that the company does not have the track record to undertake the job that has been given it, adding that the amount involved was too huge.

“We still believe the project is waste [of resources] because we are paying people each year for ten years for doing nothing…,” he said.
