Minister in charge of railway development, Joe Ghartey, has sacked some 14 workers at his ministry after they turned up to work late.
The drastic action by the minister follows earlier warning he had issued against lateness in his ministry.
“It was a wake-up call and I will monitor their response which I believe will be positive. I have to put on record that the staff have worked very hard last year but I am just asking them to work harder,” the minister revealed in the interview with the Finder Newspaper.
The action by the minister follows calls on Ghanaians by the president of the republic, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo to attach a high level of seriousness to their line of work.
During his inauguration speech, the president called on Ghanaians not to be lackadaisical towards work and also respect working hours.
Low productivity in the public sector is argued to have slowed growth in the country. This development has seen the public sector been tagged as an adventure for poor productivity.
Readers will also recall that the President gave the indication that he was going to be at Supersonic in the year 2018.
