Member of Parliament for Twifo Atti Morkwa, David T. D. Vondee, has called on Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe Abronye, popularly known as Abronye DC, to apologise over his past insulting comments.
According to him, insults in Ghana’s political space should not be tolerated based on party affiliation, stressing that misconduct must be condemned irrespective of political colour.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Vondee said repeated acts of insults can eventually trigger public backlash even over minor issues.
“Sometimes it’s not even about what you have done in the moment but all the things you have already done combined. So a small thing will trigger it,” he said.
The MP recalled a past incident involving Abronye DC and founder of Action Chapel International, Nicholas Duncan-Williams.
“I remember when Abronye insulted Reverend Duncan-Williams and he went to his church to pray. Even I feared for Abronye,” he stated.
Mr. Vondee maintained that it was time for the NPP chairman to apologise for his past comments.
“I think it’s time he apologises for all his insults,” he added.
The Twifo Atti Morkwa legislator, however, noted that the issue of political insults is not limited to one political party.
“It’s not Abronye alone; some are also in the NDC. Insults should not have political colours,” he stressed.
According to him, politicians and communicators can express their opinions without resorting to abusive language.
“Must you insult? You can communicate without insulting,” he said.
Mr. Vondee further called for equal treatment of individuals who engage in misconduct regardless of their political affiliation.
“Insults must not wear political colours, and individuals must be dealt with for any misconduct regardless of their party affiliation,” he added.
