Black Stars assistant coach Roger De Sa has dismissed any doubts about his decision to join Ghana’s technical team, insisting the project is driven by national pride and a strong ambition to compete at the highest level.
The South African tactician joined the backroom staff following the appointment of Carlos Queiroz after the departure of Otto Addo in March.
Speaking on the Beyond The Whistle podcast, De Sa said the opportunity to work with the Black Stars was an easy decision given the significance of the assignment.
“Being called upon to assist Carlos was not a difficult decision because this is Ghana, and it’s the World Cup we are talking about,” he said.
De Sa explained that the technical focus is not on overhauling the team’s playing style, but rather refining tactical and psychological aspects ahead of global competition.
He emphasised structure, positioning and mentality as key areas of improvement, noting that the squad already has strong technical ability.
“We have the players, and we only have to put them in the right position and with the right frame of mind, and they put on the jersey, they should be able to perform,” he said.
According to him, unity and cohesion will be crucial to Ghana’s success on the international stage.
“I think we only need cohesion in the team; we are not going to teach them how to play since we are all working towards a common goal,” he added.
As part of their build-up to the tournament, Ghana will face Mexico on May 22 before rounding off their preparations against Wales on June 2.
At the World Cup, Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
The Black Stars open their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field, before facing England in Boston on June 23. They will conclude their group stage fixtures against Croatia on June 27 at Lincoln Financial Field.
