The Ghana Police Command and Staff College in Winneba in the Central Region is set to resume operations after more than 13 years without admitting senior and mid-level police officers.

The development is expected to restore the college to its core mandate of providing specialised training for senior and mid-level officers of the Ghana Police Service.

The college is expected to receive about 500 officers on Friday as preparations are completed to make the facility ready for their arrival.

According to the Office of the Municipal Chief Executive of Effutu, the reopening follows sustained interventions and support from the government and key stakeholders in the municipality.

Among those credited with supporting efforts to revive the institution are former Effutu parliamentary candidate Dr James Kofi Annan, the Paramount Chief of Effutu, Neinyi Ghartey, Municipal Chief Executive Rev. Atta Mensah and other partners.

Ahead of the reopening, the Effutu Municipal Assembly has taken steps to improve conditions around the facility.

The MCE and NDC constituency executives have provided 26 streetlight bulbs and deployed field and operational artisans to assist with preparatory works at the college.

The Municipal Chief Executive has also pledged the Assembly’s support towards upgrading the shooting range and refurbishing some buildings and other facilities at the institution.

The reopening of the college is expected to boost police training and capacity development, while also bringing renewed activity to the Winneba community.

The Office of the MCE expressed appreciation to all individuals and institutions who contributed to efforts to restore the college and expressed hope that the renewed operations would produce lasting benefits.
