Ghanaian passport holders can now travel to the Maldives, Zambia, and Antigua & Barbuda without needing an entry visa, following new visa waiver agreements between Ghana and the three countries.
In a press statement announcing the development , the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that the waivers took effect after Parliament ratified the respective agreements.
The Ministry said eligible Ghanaian passport holders can now travel to these countries visa-free, subject to the terms and conditions of each agreement.
Maldives and Zambia are allowing Ordinary, Service and Diplomatic passport holders a maximum stay of 30 days each while Antigua & Barbuda is allowing a maximum stay of 90 days.
Despite the visa-free entry, the Ministry cautioned that Ghanaian travellers must still meet each country’s immigration and entry requirements.
“Visa-free entry does not exempt them from complying with the immigration and entry requirements of the country of destination,” the statement said.
Travellers have also been reminded to carry a valid passport, along with any other documents the destination country’s authorities may require, and to stay within the approved duration under the waiver arrangement.
Ghanaians travelling for reasons such as work, study or residence have been told to secure the proper permits before departure, as the visa waiver does not cover such activities.
“Travellers intending to undertake employment, study, residence or any other activity for which a permit or specific authorisation is required must obtain the appropriate approval from the relevant authorities,” the Ministry said.
The Ministry further advised travellers to check with the relevant authorities or the nearest embassy or high commission before travelling, since entry, health and other requirements could change.
