Aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, has dismissed claims that he would be unwilling to accommodate differing opinions if elected to lead the party in the region.
Dr Okoe Boye said the allegations were being propagated by his opponents because they were unable to challenge his competence and credentials for the position.
Speaking to Citi News at the WAEC Hall in Tema West, where the NPP Greater Accra Regional elections are underway, he said his leadership would prioritise constituency executives and involve them more closely in decision-making.
He said he would adopt a servant-leadership approach by working directly with constituency executives to understand their concerns and find practical solutions to challenges confronting them.
Dr Okoe Boye explained that claims about his leadership style were common during elections, particularly when opponents had little to criticise about a candidate’s qualifications or vision.
“In elections, you hear things you have never heard before. Once your opponent knows that he can’t speak to his competence and what he wants to do for the region, he may resort to these assertions,” he said.
He said the traditional model of leadership, where leaders simply issue instructions from the top, was no longer suited to modern political organisation.
According to him, effective leadership should be based on service, engagement and collaboration rather than authority.
“I am coming as a Chief Servant in Accra. I am not coming as a Chairman who is going to be lord over the constituency executives. I am going to get closer to them and get to know what they need,” he said.
Dr Okoe Boye pledged to make the concerns of constituency executives a central part of his leadership if elected, saying stronger engagement would help build a more united and effective NPP in the Greater Accra Region.
