Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has expressed his delight with the arrival of Ghana international midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi, insisting the club has great belief in the young talent.
Yirenkyi made an immediate impression on his Coventry debut, registering an assist in their 2-0 pre-season victory over AS Monaco.
The 20-year-old joined Coventry City from Danish club FC Nordsjaelland in a club-record deal reportedly worth $30 million after attracting significant interest from several clubs across Europe.
Yirenkyi’s stock rose further after an impressive showing for Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which helped strengthen his reputation as one of the country’s emerging talents.
Lampard was particularly pleased with the midfielder’s debut and believes he has the potential to develop into an important player for Coventry.
“We’ve got a belief in Caleb here. He’s a player that we’re happy to have brought to the club because he was well wanted by many clubs probably around Europe. We sold the project to him,” Lampard said to the club media.
“He’s a good, talented player; he’s young. This boy, we believe, is going to really build his career so [he’s] a big addition to the club. I think we saw signs of that; hopefully we see a lot more,” he added.
Yirenkyi is expected to be involved when Coventry City begin their Premier League campaign against Arsenal on Friday night, with Lampard likely to rely on the Ghanaian’s creativity and energy in midfield.
