The incumbent Western North Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Benjamin Armah, has withdrawn from the party’s regional chairman contest.
The Chairman of the Western North NPP Regional Election Committee, Stephen Forson, confirmed the development but said no reason had been given for the incumbent chairman’s decision.
Speaking during the ongoing regional elections at Sefwi Wiawso-Dwenase, Mr Forson said four candidates were initially contesting the chairmanship position, but Mr Armah’s withdrawal has changed the contest.
A total of 199 delegates are expected to participate in the Western North NPP Regional Elections.
Mr Forson said adequate security arrangements had been put in place at the venue, with the electoral process proceeding smoothly.
He assured that the election committee was overseeing the exercise to ensure an orderly voting process.
Confirming the incident, Benjamin Armah said he withdrew to foster peace in the constituency.
